Jazz on the Narrows™ at KIYC
Jazz on the Narrows™ came about as a collaboration between Muddy’s Daughter™ and the Kent Island Yacht Club. Mercy Morganfield, is the founder of Muddy’s Daughter and the daughter of Blues Legend, Muddy Waters. She is also a member of the Kent Island Yacht Club. Mercy is the administrator of her father’s estate and this role has immersed her in the music industry and the business of live music. She hails from a corporate background having been a Senior Director at Pfizer Pharmaceuticals for over 20 years.
Her connections in music are varied and far-reaching. For Jazz on the Narrows™, she secured some of the top, national, jazz talent for her line up. Her talent choices include traditional jazz, Caribbean jazz, eclectic jazz, Latin Jazz, and contemporary jazz. She is featuring award winning artists, up and coming artists, and mainstream artists.
“Jazz and Blues needs the infusion of new talent to evolve and flourish. It is understandable that we appreciate the music that made us fall in love with each genre and it is equally important that we allow the music to evolve and showcase newer artists who are interpreting the music in different ways. We must do this to stay relevant and appeal to all jazz lovers.” Morganfield says.
“The blues had a baby
and they named it rock and roll.”
